Hard Knocks Recap: Episode 3 with the Miami Dolphins

Mike McDaniel told the Dolphins in a team meeting last week they could “rectify the demons of last year” after collapsing following an 8-3 start.

That was the opening scene of Hard Knocks with the Miami Dolphins, Episode 3 on Tuesday night.

Here are some things we noticed:

  • McDaniel says in practice that newcomer Jason Pierre-Paul looks “phenomenal.”

  • Andrew Van Ginkel and his wife Sam and two kids are featured. Little Leo is wearing a Panthers jersey and later a Dan Marino jersey.

  • McDaniel tells his quarterbacks on the practice field, “How lucky are we?”

  • McDaniel explains to CEO Tom Garfinkel how Tua gets power from his core and that’s why his arm is stronger as he got healthy. Mike compares Tua’s pass to Tiger Woods’ swing.

  • Tua channels anger and venom into focus, McDaniel explains.

  • Wes Welker suggests Tyreek Hill might race DK Metcalf for $1 million. Tyreek says he’s done racing.

  • Hill says Lawrence Taylor was his favorite player.

  • McDaniel takes everything head on. He is not afraid to address the 5-game losing streak last year. Everything head on.

  • Ron Rivera tells McDaniel he got a headache watching all his pre-snap motions.

  • ”Let’s be sensational,” Tyreek tells his teammates in the huddle.

  • “I dyed my hair so he’d stop looking like me,” Sam Van Ginkel quips.

  • “Hey Ramsey, that’s how it’s done,” McDaniel says to Jalen after Van Ginkel’s Pick 6.

  • Tua Tagovailoa explains to Tyreek he threw away from the safety on a long TD pass. McDaniel tells Tyreek that Tua’s trying to make him go viral with the Willie Mays catch.

  • Tua is playing “filthy” McDaniel notes, highlighting how he shook a pass rusher in the pocket.

  • A referee asks McDaniel to explain why he left the tag on his sneakers. “Street cred,” Mike says.

  • “That’s like something you dream of,” Gink tells River Cracraft as they walk back to the locker room after the game.

  • “We’re getting a cake,” Sam Van Ginkel tells Andrew in a post-game phone call. Cakes are awarded to top performers by the club each week.
