Who should be the Happy State Bank Male and Female High School Athletes of the Week?

State championships and state berths were on the line for many Panhandle athletes and several stars are nominated for the Happy State Bank male and female high school athlete of the week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank male and female Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.

Male Finalists

• Tanner Adams, Bushland boys track & field — Adams finished second in the 200, third in the 100 and helped his team take silver in the 400 relay, earning berths at the UIL State Meet in all three events from the Region I-3A track meet.

• Sawyer Burleson, Pampa boys golf — Burleson shot 142 at the two-day Region I-4A tournament to tie for second and advance to the UIL State Tournament.

• Brady Holmes, Tascosa boys golf —Holmes shot a two-day total of 150 to lead the Rebels to a third-place finish at the Region I-5A golf tournament, earning berth to the UIL State Tournament.

• Clayton Norrell, Amarillo High baseball Norrell helped the Sandies topple rival Tascosa with five-inning, three hit shutout and he did not walk a batter in a 13-0 run-rule win.

• Wetera Schlachter, Boys Ranch boys track & field — The sophomore advanced to state in both the 800 and 1,600-meter runs at the Region I-2A track meet

• Daniel Sianez, Muleshoe boys track & field —Sianez finished second in the 400 and helped his team win the 1,600 relay to advance to the state meet in both events at the Region I-3A track meet.

Female Finalists

• Harlie Brabham/Blayne Robison, San Jacinto girls tennis — Brabham and Robison defended their girls double state title, only losing six games in the entire TAPPS 3A state tournament, leading the Patriots to their second straight TAPPS 3A girls team title.

• Kennadie Cummins, Clarendon softball — Cummins was 3 for 7 with a double, home run, two RBI, four runs and two stolen bases at the plate and won both games in the circle, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) with 18 strikeouts and one walk.

• Brooklyn Kinsey, Canyon girls track & field — Kinsey won four medals at the regional meet, winning the 300 hurdles, finishing second in the 100 hurdles and third in the long jump along with helping her team win the 1,600 relay.

• Samantha Krehbiel, Canadian girls track & field — Krehbiel helped the Wildcats win the 400-meter relay, finish second in the 800 relay and she earned bronze in the 100 at the Region I-3A meet, earning the wild card berth in the event to give her three events at the UIL State Track Meet.

• Jayce Ornelas, Bushland softball — Ornelas was 4 for 5 with six runs, eight RBI, two home runs, one double and one triple in two Falcons wins last week.

• Piper Patterson, West Plains girls track & field — Patterson is the first West Plains girls track athlete to qualify for the UIL State Track Meet, jumping 36-feet, 4-inches to finish second in Region I-4A in girls triple jump.
