New happy hours, jewelry store, and long-anticipated restaurant open in Bellingham

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Birrieria Tijuana opening

Birrieria Tijuana, the long-awaited Mexican restaurant announced its grand opening will take place on Monday, Dec. 12. Birrieria Tijuana has five other locations across Puget Sound, but has been teasing its upcoming Bellingham location in Facebook comments. Visitors can get a free taco during the grand opening from 3-7 p.m. The restaurant is located at 3040 Northwest Ave. in Bellingham.

Zeeks happy hour

Zeeks Pizza has announced a happy hour menu featuring $5 draft pints, $7 glasses of wine, $7 margaritas, $8 breadsticks, $12 wings and $12 mini pies. The happy hour menu will be available from 4-5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Zeeks Pizza is open from 4-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and is at 2416 Meridian St. in Bellingham.

Jewelry store opens

Neeter House of Luxury, a new jewelry store in Bellingham, recently was opened by longtime Whatcom County jeweler John Neeter and his wife, Rose, according to a news release from the store. Neeter has been a Whatcom County resident since 1989 and has worked in jewelry for 34 years. The jewelry store carries Rolex watches, diamonds, engagement rings, precious metals and custom designs, as well as offering jewelry repairs and appraisals. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and is at 21 Bellwether Way, Suite 107, in Bellingham.

Milano’s happy hour

Milano’s Italian seafood restaurant in Bellingham announced that its bar, Veneto, will now be offering a happy hour menu during the weekend. The happy hour menu will feature discounted drinks, charcuterie boards and other appetizers. Happy hour will be available from 4-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and the restaurant is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. Milano’s is located in Fairhaven at 1210 11th St.

Ice cream deal

Mallard Ice Cream is teaming up with its sister business, Bantam, to provide discounted ice cream for Bantam restaurant customers. According to a Dec. 2 Bantam Facebook post, customers can bring their Bantam receipt to Mallard Ice Cream to get 20% off their purchase. Mallard Ice Cream also serves coffee drinks and hot chocolate, as well as ice cream.

Brewery anniversary

The North Fork Brewery and Barrel House is celebrating its 25th anniversary with two anniversary events. From 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, customers can visit the North Fork Barrel House at 1900 Grant St. in Bellingham to enjoy raffles, special beers and giveaways. The celebration will also take place from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the North Fork Brewery at 6186 Mt. Baker Highway in Deming. The Barrel House also announced its new happy hours from 3-5 p.m. on weekdays, with $1 off all draft beer.

Best happy hour

The Bellingham Herald recently found the best happy hour menu in Whatcom County, according to an online reader poll. The Black Cat won, being called “by far the best restaurant,” in Whatcom County by one Yelp Reviewer. The restaurant recently won another poll by The Herald for the best soup in Whatcom County.
