Jersey Mike's and DoorDash happy hour food deal cancelled Thursday due to 'overwhelming response'

Cancel those happy hour plans with Jersey Mike's and DoorDash. The deal has been cancelled for Thursday.

"Out of respect for our customers, the DoorDash Dashers, and Jersey Mike's employees, we need to pause," the company said on Twitter Thursday afternoon. "There will be no Happy Hour today."

The plan had been for DoorDash customers to get up to $25 off any Jersey Mike's order of at least $12 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday and Thursday this week – June 7 and June 8.

Evidently, the promotion was a big hit on Wednesday. So big that Jersey Mike's had to call it off for Thursday.

"We are heartbroken to have to end the SUB-perior Happy Hour early," the company's tweet continued. "We received an overwhelming response."

DoorDash and Jersey Mike's came up with the SUBperior Happy Hour promotion with the help of TikTok food critic Keith Lee, who has more than 12.9 million followers and had his Chipotle order hack added to the menu back in March.

A former Dasher himself, Lee told USA TODAY, "with this deal, we're just making sure everybody to secure the goods in time for family dinner and I think it is dope. … I just feel like with $25 off Jersey Mike's and get it delivered straight to your door, you can't beat that."

How did DoorDash and Jersey Mike's arrive at this happy hour deal?

DoorDash reached out to Lee, who's well-known for his taste tests and food deals.

"I only really work with companies that I want to work with ... that I genuinely enjoy," he said. "So when they reached out, it was not much thought that was put into it."

Jersey Mike's "was the first thing to come up," he said. "I personally like Jersey Mike's."His most recent order? The No. 9, a club supreme sandwich with roast beef, turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, mayo, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, oil, vinegar, oregano and salt.

"And I had it on rosemary parmesan bread," Lee said. "It was fire."

Summer of DashPass is coming June 15

DoorDash begins its Summer of DashPass promotion on June 15, which means five weeks of deals for members of its DashPass subscription service ($9.99/month or $96/year), which includes $0 delivery fees and other benefits.

Among the deals June 15-21:

  • $5 off orders of $30 or more from Jack in the Box, plus exclusive delivery access to the limited-time Snoop Late Night Munchie Meal – it includes a Spicy Sauced and Loaded Chicken Sandwich, taco, curly fries, brownie and a drink.

  • 40% off orders of $50 or more (for savings up to $30 off) at Dick's Sporting Goods.

  • $10 off orders of $30 or more from Walgreens.

  • 20% off on orders of $35 or more (savings up to $10) on all alcohol orders. Must be 21 or older.

  • Spend $5 at 7-Eleven and get a free Slurpee on Friday.
