It's Happening: This Fall, There Will Be a 'Bachelor' Spinoff for Older People

Alert your horny grandma (immediately regret writing that sentence) and smash *panic* on your life alert because The Golden Bachelor is coming. And while the title "Golden Bachelor" definitely sounds like some sort of experimental sex position, we're just happy this show is finally premiering considering that ABC announced it literally years ago. Like, I have personally aged into a golden bachelorette in the time this show took to actually premiere.

So, what do we know about the Golden Bachelor—which will feature older contestants—and is it too late to apply on the behalf of your super cute grandparent? Here's the deal.

The Casting Window Is Still Open

Not sure for how much longer, but if you head to Bachelor Nation dot com there's most definitely a button to apply. Which leads you to a casting website with some truly amazing clip art:

Questions on the application are mostly about applicants' annual salary, if they've ever been married, their "ideal mate," why they want to find love on reality TV (honestly, great question), and what obstacles they've overcome in life.

As the Name Implies, the Show Focuses on a Bachelor

Not a bachelorette (though there's always next season)! Meaning, an older gentlemen who apparently wants to spend his twilight years becoming famous and getting some good spon-con deals will embark on a love journey with several dozen eligible women.

The official synopsis says reads:

"On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss, and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?"

What Will the Vibe Be?

The Bachelor typically involves quite a bit of travel—but depending on just how golden these golden-years contestants are, a lot of jet-setting might not be an option. So...maybe they'll keep things local?

Either way, executive producer Rob Mills told Variety allll the way back in 2020 (that's how long they've been teasing this show!) that hometown dates will feature children instead of parents, and you can expect to get in your feelings:

"Some of the casting interviews we got, they were just so touching. It’s such a different way of doing ‘The Bachelor’ because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives. There is an interesting thing about people who have hit the other end of the spectrum, who’ve lived their lives, they’ve raised their kids, some have been widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love. We thought that would be an interesting dynamic through the ‘Bachelor’ prism.”

What We Know About the Cast

It's truly a TBD situation. The Golden Bachelor himself hasn't been announced but there's a lot of speculation that ABC will cast a celebrity. Specifically Sports Illustrated cover star Martha Stewart, who told Variety she'd do the Bachelorette version of the show if she "gets to see the men first."

So, When Is The Golden Bachelor Airing?

Thanks for asking—so far, all we know is that The Golden Bachelor will be on TV Monday nights after Dancing With the Stars this coming fall. Which presumably means it'll start filming in the summer. Naturally, we'll be giving you every single update as we get them!
