'Hank the Cowdog' author to speak at the National Cowboy Museum Saturday during annual festival

The author of the popular "Hank the Cowdog" children's book series, John R. Erickson, will speak at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City Saturday as part of the annual Chuck Wagon Festival.

"Hank the Cowdog" began in 1982 and depicts the daily life on a ranch in the West Texas Panhandle through the eyes of Hank the Cowdog, according to Erickson's biography.

Erickson was born in Midland, Texas, in 1943 before his family moved to Perryton, Texas, in the northeastern Texas Panhandle in 1946.

The author has written and published 75 books and over 600 articles, according to his biography.

Erickson will speak at the Chuck Wagon Festival at the museum, 1700 Northeast 63rd St., at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. He will also hold book signing events that day from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m.

The two-day festival on Saturday and Sunday will also feature Chuck Wagon and Native American food samples, and live musical entertainment from Oklahoma Opry, along with various other activities.
