Wounded gunman arrested in Fort Worth after chase ends with Haltom City police firing shots

A suspect who escaped authorities after being wounded in a shooting with Haltom City police in Fort Worth was arrested early Tuesday, Haltom City police said.

Officers had started a car chase in Haltom City late Monday, but it ended in Fort Worth, where officers fired at the armed man before he ran away, Haltom City police said.

At around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, following the shooting, the suspect was found in the 2200 block of Blandin Street in Fort Worth after burglarizing a residence, Haltom City police said.

The suspect was taken into custody by Fort Worth police and found to have an apparent minor injury to his upper body believed to be from a round fired by Haltom City police.

The suspect faces charges of evading arrest or detention and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, according to Haltom City police.

Additional charges are expected and the suspect will be identified once seen by a magistrate, police said Tuesday.

Haltom City police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle at about 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 4200 block of Creech Street in Haltom City.

The driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit, Haltom City police said in a news release.

The suspect’s vehicle stopped in the 2700 block of Northeast 28th Street in Fort Worth, where the driver got out of the car and pointed a gun toward Haltom City officers, the release said.

Fearing for their lives, Haltom City officers fired at the suspect, Haltom City police said.

The suspect ran, and officers lost sight of him, police said.

Fort Worth police arrived to assist in the search for the suspect.

The major crime unit of the Fort Worth Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation.

The involved Haltom City officers have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with policy, authorities said.
