Halloween trick-or-treating forecast for Rochester: Will it snow tomorrow?

This week, Rochester might experience its first snowflakes of the season, with mixed wet snow possible overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

While snowflakes could be spotted in the air on Tuesday or Wednesday, accumulation is not expected in the Rochester region, said Heather Kenyon, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo. Some communities south of Buffalo may see up to an inches of snow.

In Rochester though, there is a "slight chance" snowflakes will fly early Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening (Halloween night) into early Wednesday morning, Kenyon said.

Periods of rain is also predicted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

"It will be an unsettled period over the next few days, and much cooler than last week" when the daily high reached the mid or upper 70s for four straight days, Kenyon said.

Low temperatures this week are expected to dip to the low 30s, with daytime highs in the mid-40s, both roughly 10 degrees cooler than the normal highs and lows in Rochester for this time of year, Kenyon said.

Last winter, Rochester saw 50.4 inches of snow, with the snowiest month being March. Typically, measurable snowfall starts in November, though occasional flurries can occur in October, and snow can even fall as late as May in the region.

"Winter is coming, and those first flakes (of the season) always shock people," Kenyon said.
