Halle Berry is a cool mom!

The actress, 57, stepped out at the Los Angeles premiere of The Union on Monday, Aug. 12, and spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how she earned "cool points" when her daughter Nahla Ariela, 16, met her costar Mark Wahlberg.

"Well, I got cool points when I introduced my daughter to Mark, because she loves Daddy's Home," Berry tells PEOPLE. "That's one of her favorite movies. So when I got to introduce her to Mark, I think it was the first time in my whole career where she said 'Oh, you know Mark Wahlberg? Okay you're cool.' "

She adds that it was the "first time" Nahla had ever said it. "I've met some really amazing people, but she happened to be a big fan of his," Berry tells PEOPLE.

Berry, who shares Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubryalso, as well as son Maceo-Robert, 10, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, also opened up about the advice she'd give her children if they were to follow her footsteps in Hollywood.

"I would tell them, do it the way I did it," she tells PEOPLE. "I had no nepotism. Nobody helped me. I had to learn from the ground up. They would have to do it the same way."

"They would have to go pay their dues, learn a craft, work hard, and make it on their own for themselves," she adds. "That way it's always theirs. Nobody takes it away. That's what they would have to do."

The Catwoman star was dressed in a long-sleeve black, sheer one-piece dress with floral accents as she posed on Monday's red carpet.

Berry was joined by her costar Wahlberg, 53, as well as more of the movie's stars. In the film, Wahlberg stars as Mike, a construction worker in New Jersey, while Berry plays Roxanne, his high school sweetheart who comes back into his life with a spy mission that involves a lot of action — in more ways than one.

"Knowing he’s the right man for the job, she recruits Mike on a dangerous intelligence mission in Europe that thrusts them back together into a world of spies and high-speed car chases, with sparks flying along the way," the film's synopsis read.

Teasing the film to Entertainment Weekly, Wahlberg described his character Mike as a “blue-collar James Bond."

As for working with the Catwoman star, Wahlberg said, "Doing anything with Halle is very easy but also an absolute joy. Pretty much any guy or gal would do anything to win her over, so it was certainly easy when it came to me basically following her like a puppy."

"There’s a nice balance of humor and action with a story that ultimately relies on our chemistry," he added

The Union is on Netflix Friday Aug. 16.
