Hairnets and shrink wrap were found in this Florida company’s recalled protein bars

Of all the things various companies pack into protein bars, nobody intentionally includes hairnets, shrink wrap or parchment paper. That’s why a Riviera Beach company made a not-food-in-your-food recall of three batches of protein bars.

Doctors Scientific Organica said its recall of Burn Boot Camp Afterburn Grass-Fed Whey Protein Bars Triple Chocolate Almond was an “action out of an abundance of caution after consumers contacted Burn Boot Camp about this issue.”

The “issue” being the hairnet, shrink wrap and parchment paper because, as the recall notice states, “Foodborne foreign objects that are flexible and not sharp may cause minor injuries such as transient choking or gastrointestinal system injury.”

This involves lot Nos. 181, 184 and 187 of the protein bars sold by Burn Boot Camp, which claims to have 335 gyms throughout the United States and sells protein supplements through its website.

Though Doctors Scientific is in a Riviera Beach industrial area, the address of authorized members Alan Bergman, Darren Minton and Alfonso Cervantes Jr. in state records is a Boca Raton commercial building.

One number for Doctors Scientific given by Google was disconnected as of Wednesday afternoon. A toll-free number on the website connected to a fax machine.
