Haddon Township man accused of setting car afire in Haddonfield

CAMDEN – A Haddon Township man is accused of torching a car in Haddonfield in October 2023 and with stalking in the borough over a four-year period.

Michael McNeely, 42, also engaged in stalking in Medford, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 2023 fire occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Oct. 21, when Haddonfield police found an SUV burning outside a home on the 1000 block of Concord Circle.

“Surveillance video captured a suspect pouring gasoline onto the vehicle and lighting it on fire,” the statement said.

Also, McNeely is accused of throwing a cinderblock through a sliding glass door at the Concord Circle home in June 2019, the statement said. The cinderblock had the word “bully” on it in red paint, according to a probable cause statement for McNeely’s arrest.

A break in the case came on Nov. 9, 2023, when a bench was defaced with spray paint outside a home in Medford.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for “Google data” that showed McNelly had looked online for information about the Medford site one day before the vandalism there, the probable cause statement says.

They found he had allegedly searched “fire department responds to car fire in Haddonfield” within 10 hours of the 2023 blaze.

They also saw McNeely allegedly searched hundreds of times on multiple search engines for names connected to the incidents.

McNeely was charged May 17 with aggravated arson and criminal mischief in connection with the 2023 car fire, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

He is also accused of criminal mischief for the June 2019 incident, the statement said.

He faces charges of criminal mischief and harassment in Medford in connection with the November 2023 vandalism there.

The stalking incidents occurred in both communities from 2019 to 2023.

The charges are only allegations. McNeely has not been convicted in the case.
