H.S. Roundup: Lancaster baseball tops Raiders to set up huge OCC showdown

Lancaster 4, Reynoldsburg 2: The Golden Gales were able to hang in their Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win over the host Raiders.

Darren Ramsey pitched three-plus innings and Canon Ailes came in relief to get out of a jam in the fourth inning. Kam Griffith pitched the final two innings of shutout baseball to earn the save. Dylan Bird had two hits and two RBIs and Owen Pompey, Aiden Henson, Jackson Burke and Griffith all had hits for the Gales.

Lancaster (14-5, 11-2) is set to host league-leading Pickerington Central (16-2, 12-1) on Wednesday. The Gales are one game back of the Tigers with two league games remaining.

Berne Union 6, Fisher Catholic 5: The Rockets rallied from a 5-3 deficit by scoring two runs in the fifth inning and the go-ahead run in the sixth to top the Irish in Mid-State League-Cardinal Division play.

Cade Pugh pitched four innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs while striking out six. Austin Snyder pitched three innings, not allowing a run and striking out five to pick up the win.

Hudson Gerken went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Colton Moore had a double and two RBIs, Snyder and William Bolton had one hit and one RBI each and Clayton Moore and Cam Brown chipped in one hit each for the Rockets (11-5, 7-4).

Amanda-Clearcreek 7, Liberty Union 4: Blayne Barker hit a three-run double to spark a huge rally in the seventh inning as the Aces scored six runs to overtake the Lions in MSL-Buckeye Division action.

Barker went 3-for-4, including two doubles, while Peyton Beavers and Breece Stone had two hits each. Peter Brockman picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and striking out five.

Softball

Lancaster 10, Olentangy 0: Ashlin Mowery struck out 10 in a nonconference win over the visiting Braves.

Skylar Smith hit two home runs, while Kendall Brown, Lily Stoughton and Ky Pugh finished with two hits each.

Millersport 3, Grove City Christian 1: Kendyl Bonkowski had 13 strikeouts in the circle to help lead the Lakers to an MSL-Cardinal Division win over the Eagles.

Bonkowski recoded her 100th strikeout on the season and now stands at 156 for her career in only her sophomore season.

The Lakers opened the scoring in the top of the first inning scoring two runs on doubles as Emma Raver doubled to score Veronica Rarey and Alexis Barch doubled to score Raver. An RBI single by Veronica Rarey extended the Lakers lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

Raver and Rarey led the way offensively for the Lakers collecting two hits apiece. Barch, Raver and Rarey each had one RBI and Rarey had two stolen bases.

Tennis

Lancaster tennis to host meeting: There will be a meeting for all girls planning on playing tennis for Lancaster High School in the fall at 6:30 p.m. on May 14 at the Rod Ishida Tennis Courts at Fulton Field. The meeting is for both new and returning players and their parents. The meeting should last about an hour. There will be a booster meeting immediately following the parent meeting.
