H.S. Roundup: Fisher Catholic and Fairfield Union take home track invitational titles

TRACK

Fairfield Union places first: The Lady Falcons placed first in the eight-team Pickerington Central Milt Wilt Invitational with 155 points over second Place Pickerington Central (134).

Fairfield Union set two school records. Junior Christian Thompson set a meet and school record in the high jump (five-feet-six inches), and the 800 relay team of Abbie Pike, Kyla Gasser, Katherin Welch and Sara Lepi set a school record with a time of 1:47.70.

The Falcons’ boys team placed fourth out of nine teams. Chayse Lipscomb set two school records in the hurdles with a time of 37.82 in the 300 hurdles and 14.31 in the 110 hurdles.

Fisher Catholic places first: The Irish boys and girls competed in the Millersport Laker Invitational and both teams placed first.

Earning Co-performers in the running events total points were senior Jack Gentile and Junior Daschel Neighbor. Jack Gentile won the 1,600 with a PR of 4:25.9, and the 3,200-10:43.8, and the 3,200 relay team of Gentile, Nathaon Krile, Landen Funk and Jake Taylor-9:05.5 and the 1,600 relay team of Gentile, Landen Funk, Daschel Neighbor and Nolan Garrabrant-3:41.9.

Neighbor won the 110 high hurdles-17.28, the 300 hurdles- 42.8, and the 200-24.46. Sophomore Landen Funk won the 800-2:05. and the long jump 17'11" and Sophomore Nolan Garrabrant won the high jump-6'0". Second-place finishes for the Irish were the 800 relay team of Jacob Welsh, Thomas Ristau, Nolan Garrabrant and Leo Hampshire- 1:42.6. Reece Hagy placed second in the 800-2:09.7, Roman Funk-3,200-10:48.4, and 1,600-4:49.2 and Senior Nathan Krile was second in the Pole Vault with a PR-12 feet.

The Irish Girls won the meet scoring 170 points. Leading the Irish was Senior Ruby Hagy who was the Meet's Most Valuable Performer in the running events. She won the 400-62.8, 800-2:37.7 and the 3,200, which consisted of Hagy, Maggie Murphy, Mary Grace Crabtree, Charli Gillum- 11:10.3. The 1,600 relay team of Hagy, Abby Krooner, Sydney Ellis and Charli Gillum-4:34 placed first.

Senior Abby Krooner won the 100 low hurdles-17.55 and 300 hurdles- 51.4. Junior Kierra Sexton won the Pole Vault-7'6" and Junior Maggie Murphy won the 3,200 Meter Run 14:35.4. Second-place finishers for the Irish were the 800 relay team of Sydney Ellis, Abigail Crabtree, Maggie Murphy and Charli Gillum-2:01.4, Sydney Ellis- Pole Vaunt-7'3", Allie Krile-3,200- 14:51.3 and the 400 relay team of Sydney Ellis, Abigail Crabtree, Savannah Thorne, and Erica Sharp- 58.62, and Charli Gillum-2:44.7.

SOFTBALL

Millersport 10, Zanesville Rosecrans 4: Kendyl Bonkowski picked up another win in the circle, allowing five hits and striking out 10 to help lead the Lakers to an MSL-Cardinal Division win over the Bishops.

Millersport scored six runs in the first inning. Alexis Barch went 2-for-3, Haiden Byrd had two RBIs. Bonkowski, Emma Raver, Scarlett Sheets, Adalee Martin, Veronica Rarey and Byrd all finished with two hits.

Liberty Union 4, Bloom-Carroll 0: Suzie Shultz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and picked up the win in the circle, allowing four hits and striking out 11 to help lead the Lions to an MSL-Cardinal Divison win over the Bulldogs.

Maddie Walters pitched four-plus innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out six in the loss.

Berne Union 14, Fairfield Christian Academy 4: Despite committing four errors, the Rockets defeated the Knights in MSL-Cardinal Division action.

Karlee Morgan pitched four innings, giving up four hits and struck out four, and Josilyn Hedges pitched one inning and gave up one run and struck out one.

Hedges had two hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Mia Hintz, McKenna Conley, Riley North all finished with two hits each and Morgan had a double and RBI.

BASEBALL

Lancaster 9, Central Crossing 0: The Golden Gales cruised in their Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win over the Comets.

Canon Ailes pitched a complete game shutout for the win. Owen Pompey, Dylan Bird, and Jakub Akers all had multiple hits. Colin Spradlin had an RBI and scored a run.

The Gales defeated Groveport 15-0 in another OCC game to improve to 13-5 overall and 10-2 in the league.

Amanda-Clearcreek 4, Logan Elm 3: The Aces won an MSL-Buckeye Division over the Braves. Nick Holland, Bodie Martin and Blayne Barker combined for four of the Aces’ seven hits. Barker picked up the win, giving up two hits and no runs in three innings of work.

Bloom-Carroll 10, Liberty Union 1: Markus Roberson went 3-for-5 and had four RBIs in the Bulldogs’ MSL-Buckeye Division win over the Lions, and in the process, clinched the MSL-Buckeye Division championship.

Grove City Christian 11, Berne Union 7: The Rockets fell short in their MSL-Cardinal Division game against the Eagles. The Rockets led 7-3 in the top of the third inning but gave up five runs in the bottom half of the inning and never recovered.

Jeremy Hartmann and Ethan Redinger combined to give up six earned runs and strikeout 11. The Rockets (10-5, 6-4) had four errors. Cade Pugh had two hits, including a triple and three RBIs, Clayton Moore went 2-for-3, including a double and had an RBI, while Colton Moore and Austin Snyder had two hits each.

TENNIS

Lancaster tennis to host meeting: There will be a meeting for all girls planning on playing tennis for Lancaster High School in the fall on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rod Ishida Tennis Courts at Fulton Field. The meeting is for both new and returning players and their parents. The meeting should last about an hour. There will be a booster meeting immediately following the parent meeting.
