H-E-B looking to hire 2,250 people for new Dallas-Fort Worth stores. Here’s how to apply

The largest privately held employer in Texas, H-E-B, has 145,000 workers on its payroll. With new stores opening across North Texas, thousands more people will be employed.

On Wednesday, H-E-B’s Frisco store opened its doors with a little more than 700 employees, 600 of whom were hired locally.

“There’s a lot of excitement and energy from our Partners, who are the heart of H-E-B, and they have been waiting for this day to introduce H-E-B to North Texas,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, executive vice president of H-E-B North Texas, in a statement. “H-E-B Partners from across the company have come together to make this day happen, and they’ve done an exceptional job tailoring this store to Frisco and the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Stores currently under construction in Plano, McKinney and Allen will soon employ 750 people each. So will upcoming Dallas-Fort Worth locations, including: Melissa, Forney, Prosper, Fort Worth, Dallas and Rockwall, which have confirmations of real estate purchases with no announced construction start dates. The company also has announced plans for an H-E-B store in Mansfield and is expected to start construction there in early 2023.

Before Thanksgiving, the company is set to break ground on two new stores. Their locations have yet to be announced.

“H-E-B is planful and disciplined in how we select our locations and time the opening of our stores. As we continue to innovate new products, and evolve how we deliver a great shopping experience to our customers, we take very seriously the responsibility to deliver a custom tailored store for communities,” H-E-B spokesperson Mabrie Jackson told the Star-Telegram. “We will serve more neighbors across North Texas in the coming years. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we learn about the shopping and eating habits of North Texans with these first four store openings. We promise it will be worth the wait.”

With the Plano store the next to debut in North Texas, opening later this fall, applications are currently open for jobs such as cooking coach and cake decorator. Thirty more positions are to be filled in Frisco, according to H-E-B, in the grocery, produce, deli, pharmacy, sanitation and customer service departments.

How do I check my application status?

The status of your application can be viewed by logging into your account on careers.heb.com. Instructions can be found in the email you received after submitting your application. Depending on the volume of candidates, some positions take longer than others. Keep checking your email and “My Careers” account for updates.

Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive an email confirmation. If you’re selected to move forward in the interviewing process, an H-E-B recruiter will email or call you. Note that all recruiters reach out with an H-E-B email address.

According to the company, some of the most common reasons candidates are not selected are:

  • Availability did not match the job requirements.

  • Minimum qualifications are not met.

  • The position was filled.

  • Other applications had more specific experience/qualifications.

What is the minimum age requirement to work at an H-E-B store?

The minimum age requirement to work is 16 for curbies, baggers and checkers. All other store positions have a minimum age of 18 years old.

How can I apply to a new store that is opening?

All new store jobs will be posted online at careers.heb.com under the “Store” tab. Every new store is different and every hiring timeline varies, according to H-E-B. They recommend you set up a job alert for that store. You can also follow the company on social media for updates and open positions.
