Gunman in Tennessee Kroger shooting used 3 legally purchased guns, police say

The Tennessee man who killed one person and injured 14 more at a Kroger last month used three guns in the shooting, which were legally purchased, police said.

In the 18 months prior to the Sept. 23 shooting, 29-year-old UK Thang purchased two pistols and a rifle, the Collierville Police Department said in a Facebook post. All three guns were sold by licensed dealers.

Thang purchased one ATI Omni pistol, one KelTec PMR-30 pistol and one KelTec CMR-30 rifle, cops said.

Collierville police also shared a detailed timeline of the shooting at the Kroger in the city about 20 miles east of Memphis.

Thang worked as a third-party sushi vendor at the store, but got into a disagreement with an employee and was asked to leave at 7 a.m., police said. Thang returned to his apartment, which he shared with his brother.

At 12:30 p.m., Thang told his brother he was leaving to get something to eat, according to the cops. At 1:30 p.m., he called his brother and told him he’d never see him again before quickly hanging up.

Thang then returned to the store and opened fire indiscriminately, shooting 10 customers and five employees, police said. Olivia King, a customer at the store who had just gone to church, was killed.

As police responded to the scene, Thang died by suicide.
