‘The Guilty’ Director’s New Psychological Thriller ‘Vogter’ Sells to Multiple Territories for Films du Losange (EXCLUSIVE)

“Vogter,” a psychological thriller directed by Gustav Möller, whose previous film “The Guilty” won the Audience Award at Sundance, has been pre-sold by Les Films du Losange to multiple territories.

“Vogter,” which was just completed and is now in post, has been picked up for Germany, Austria, Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Spain (La Aventura), Italy (Movies Inspired), Japan (Happinet Phantom Studios), Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg (Cineart), Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (Kino Pavasaris) and Hungary (Vertigo). Les Films du Losange has closed these deals since unveiling the project at Cannes and is negotiating further sales in other key territories.

The film is headlined by Sidse Babett Knudsen, the BAFTA-winning actor of “Borgen,” as Eva, an idealistic prison officer, is faced with the dilemma of her life when a young man from her past gets transferred to the prison where she works. Without revealing her secret, Eva asks to be moved to the young man’s ward – the toughest and most violent in the prison. Here begins an unsettling psychological thriller, where Eva’s sense of justice puts both her morality and future at stake.

Knudsen stars opposite Dar Salim (“Game of Thrones”) and up-and-comer Sebastian Bull.

Produced by Nordisk Film, the film has also been picked up by DR (Danish Broadcasting), SVT (Swedish Broadcasting) and NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting). Nordisk Film Distribution will release it in Scandinavia, while Les Films du Losange will release it in France in 2024.

Möller’s feature debut, “The Guilty” sold in over 100 territories and was remade in the U.S. by Antoine Fuqua with Jake Gyllenhaal starring in the lead role. Möller is now expected to team with Gyllenhaal on “Snow Blind,” a film project which is reportedly in development.

Les Films du Losange is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Founded by Barbet Schroeder and Eric Rohmer in the 1960s, Les Films du Losange is the oldest French independent company still in operation with a track record including three Palme d’Or awards in Cannes, one Academy Award, and over sixty international awards. The banner, which has been producing cult movies by some of Europe’s best known filmmakers, notably Rohmer, Schroeder, Roger Planchon, Jacques Rivette, Michael Haneke, Jacques Doillon, Mia Hansen-Love, was taken over by Charles Gillibert, the thriving French producer behind Leos Carax’s Cannes prizewinning “Annette,” and Alexis Dantec, former managing director of the film financing group Cofinova in 2021.
