Here’s a guide to Myrtle Beach area beach wheelchairs, handicap parking and beach accesses

South Carolina’s beaches are for everyone, including those with mobility-related disabilities.

Whether you use a wheelchair, scooter or cane, you can find public beach access, handicapped parking and beach wheelchairs for your visit to Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach or anywhere on the Grand Strand.

If you are a disabled veteran, senior or anyone who requires mobility assistance, here’s what you need to know to plan an accessible beach trip.

Accessible public beach accesses

Looking for a handicap accessible public beach in Horry or Georgetown County? Our interactive Google Map shares all the accessible beach entrances from North Myrtle Beach to Pawleys Island, as complied by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Our map includes information on the type and number of parking spots, whether there are restrooms and lifeguards and if the access has boardwalks, ramps or sand paths.

You can find the same information on our accessible beaches spreadsheet.

Beach wheelchairs

A surfer waits in a beach wheel chair for a chance to hit the waves at the “Wheel to Surf” Adaptive Surfing Clinic held in North Myrtle Beach on Saturday. Forty participants with mental and physical disabilities took to the water with help from over 100 volunteers. “Today is a life changing experience for most of us,” said Brock Johnson, founder of “Wheel to Surf.” The clinic was hosted with support from Coastal Adaptive Sports, Ocean-Cure, and the Adaptive Sports Project.

Beachgoers can borrow wheelchairs equipped with large balloon tires for traveling through the sand. Some cities allow visitors to pick them up free of charge and others offer delivery to resorts and hotels for a fee. Here’s how to rent a beach wheelchair, according to Visit Myrtle Beach.
