Your guide to Corpus Christi's 14th annual Barefoot Mardi Gras

With clear weather in the air in the Coastal Bend, expect to see hundreds of people attempting to catch colorful beads at North Padre Island Saturday.

The 14th annual Barefoot Mardi Gras parade, marking the end of the pre-Lenten season in Christianity, will take place at 11 a.m. near Whitecap Boulevard on the Island.

While the event is free to attend and watch, participating floats must pay $65 to $225 to march. But the fun has a purpose — all proceeds go to the Island Foundation Seashore Schools and Texas Sealife Center.

Where do I park?

If you want to park on the beach as a spectator, be sure to head there before the parade starts. The beach will be closed off shortly before the festivities begin.

There will be surface parking available at the Briscoe King Pavilion if you'd prefer to walk to the parade.

What will the weather be like?

Saturday's forecast will be mostly cloudy with a high near 78.

What should I bring?

Be sure to dress for the beach, which means open-toe footwear, hats and plenty of sunscreen — UV rays can harm your skin even on cloudy days.

Don't forget some lawn chairs and to dress up in your best Mardi Gras attire.
