We Were The Lucky Ones is Hulu's new miniseries, adapted from the book of the same name by writer Georgia Hunter. The story takes place before, during, and after World War II, following a family of Polish Jews who, after avoiding relative persecution due to their success prior to WWII, find themselves in hiding and in concentration camps. Our story begins at Passover in 1937 and ultimately ends at Passover in 1947, a decade-spanning epic.

The family at the center of the story, the Kurcs, are led by well-off parents who own a store in Poland, catering to the region’s wealthy Germans before antisemitism and Nazism changes everything about their lives, and the world at large.

The series begins streaming on Hulu on March 28 and features a few familiar faces. Here’s who will be gracing your screens in the coming weeks, plus where you’ve seen them before.

Logan Lerman as Addy Kurc

Logan Lerman, of teen heartthrob status and Percy Jackson fame (the original movies, not the new TV series), leads this ensemble as Addy Kurc, a 25-year-old engineer and composer who moved from Poland to France to pursue his career. Saddled across the globe, Addy is separated from his family amid the escalation of WWII.

Joey King as Halina Kurc

Joey King, known for her work in Hulu’s The Act and Netflix’s Kissing Booth Cinematic Universe, plays Halina Kurc, Addy’s sister and the other main character in the series. She enters the story in a rhetorical crisis of her own, which will pale in comparison to the hardships to come for this family. She is weighing her options between marriage with her boyfriend Adam, or a solo adventure traveling abroad.

Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Genek Kurc

Genec is the eldest Kurc child and the “playboy” of the family, a successful lawyer dating his soon-to-be wife Herta. A British actor, Henry Lloyd-Hughes previously appeared in Chevalier, Killing Eve, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and perhaps most famously, played Mark Donovan on the UK comedy The Inbetweeners.

Amit Rahav as Jakob Kurc

A photographer studying to be a lawyer, Jakob is introduced to the story, eager to bring his new girlfriend home to meet his family. If actor Amit Rahav looks familiar, it's because he’s previously starred in Netflix’s hit series Unorthodox from 2020.

Hadas Yaron as Mila Kurc

The second eldest Kurc child, Mila is pregnant with her husband’s Selim’s child, soon to be a baby named Felicia. Yaron previously starred in the series Shtisel, which follows a family living in an ultra-Orthodox community in Jerusalem.

Michael Aloni as Selim

Mila’s husband Selim is played by Michael Aloni, who you may recognize as Poli from HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage, starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, or alongside Hadas Yaron in Shtisel.
