Guardians put Gavin Williams on 60-day IL, trade for Marlins pitcher Darren McCaughan

The Cleveland Guardians moved starting pitcher Gavin Williams to the 60-day injured list on Thursday due to inflammation in his right elbow.

Williams started the season on the injured list before being shut down due to the elbow issue.

In 16 starts with the Guardians last season, Williams was 3-5 with a 3.29 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched.

The Guardians traded cash considerations to the Miami Marlins for right-handed pitcher Darren McCaughan. He was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.

In two starts for the Marlins this season, McCaughan has a 5.40 ERA with eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings pitched.
