Guardians of the Galaxy 3 detail makes Rocket's story even more heartbreaking

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 spoilers follow.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 director James Gunn appears to have confirmed a heartbreaking detail in the new movie.

The latest Marvel adventure delves into the backstory of Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), as we learn that he was experimented on as a baby by the evil High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).

There, Rocket became close with other test subjects Lylla, Teefs and Floor, though while trying to free Lylla, she is tragically killed by the High Evolutionary.

After Rocket goes for the villain and his guards in revenge, Teefs and Floor are also killed, before the raccoon manages to flee on a spaceship.

While answering fan questions on Twitter about Vol 3, Gunn was asked whether Rocket cares for prosthetic limbs because they remind him of his three friends.

In response, the director wrote: "Complicated [but] sort of."

Oh dear, we may need some tissues.

As well as the Rocket detail, Gunn has also confirmed a Groot theory from the third movie after the character is heard saying "I love you guys" at the end, despite audiences only being able to hear him say "I am Groot" throughout the series.

Responding to an idea about it being the first instance of the viewers being able to understand Groot like the Guardians as audiences have gotten to know him over several movies, Gunn wrote: "Yes, that's exactly what it means."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is out now UK and US cinemas. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are streaming on Disney+.
