On Saturday, Feb. 10, Grubhub driver Alan Moncayo delivered lunch to a manager at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's in Virginia. Moncayo probably wasn't expecting to fall in love with one of the animal shelter's longest residents, but that's exactly what happened!

This was such a lucky encounter for both Moncayo and Jihoo, the 65-lb. black-and-white pit bull mix!

People magazine reports about what happened when Moncayo made his food delivery.

"It was love at first sight," Moncayo, 51, tells PEOPLE. "He looked at me, and I looked back at him."

Because it was a weekend, the single dad had his 5-year-old daughter, Sabrina, with him.

"My daughter's been asking me for a puppy for the longest time," Moncayo says. "She wanted a dog so bad."

This whole situation was just meant to be. Considering Jihoo had been at the shelter for a long 240 days before being adopted by Moncayo is just everything. No dog should have to live at a shelter that long!

One of the volunteers commented, "The volunteers at the shelter miss him so much, but we're so happy for the beautiful new life he has!"

If you want to visit your own local shelter or Humane Society to adopt your own Jihoo, congratulations, you are a wonderful human! There are so many amazing dogs at animal shelters that need and deserve a loving forever home and there are a few things you should think about before adding one to your family.

Things To Consider Before Adopting a Dog

Adopting a dog, especially a dog that has spent weeks or months in a shelter, if an absolutely wonderful thing to do. But there are many important factors to take into consideration before you add a fur baby to your family, and they can include things like how much time do you have to spend with a dog? Do you work long hours? If you are gone most of the day it may be a good idea to adopt an older dog instead of a puppy who needs frequent attention and bathroom breaks.

Where you live. A larger dog may need a yard or close access to a park so they can have room to run, where a smaller dog may be better suited to apartment living.

What grooming requirements a dog has. Are you willing to shell out money for monthly grooming appointments or do you want a shorter hair breed dog who can do with the occasional bath?

Do you want a more playful dog, a dog that follows commands well, or a lazy dog? The AKC is such a wonderful resource for information on so many different dog breeds. You can also ask shelter volunteers what they would suggest for the best type of dog for your family. We are sure they'd love to match you with your forever friend.

If you are interested in donating, volunteering, or adopting your own cat or dog, please check with your local animal rescue, breed specific rescue, or Humane Society.
