Grizzlies guard Derrick Rose makes definitive statement on future NBA plans

Derrick Rose's career with the Memphis Grizzlies isn't done yet.

The former NBA MVP and current Grizzlies point guard said Monday morning that he plans to return for a 17th NBA season. Since he remains under contract with the Grizzlies, that's likely to take place in Memphis.

"Yes, I'm coming back," Rose said. "I talked to Zach (Kleiman), I talked to coach. ... This summer, it's all about attacking my rehabs, my workouts and continuing to be disciplined."

Rose played in 24 games this season while dealing with a string of injuries. He never played a stretch of more than five consecutive games.

When in the lineup, Rose was productive. He shot 46.1% from the field, which was his highest since 2020. He also made 36.6% of his 3-pointers and started seven of his 24 appearances.

Rose, whose locker was next to Ja Morant's in the Grizzlies' locker room, provided veteran leadership that the team had been seeking after the 2022-23 season. Many of his teammates this season have spoken about his impact in the locker room. That experience should yield more results next season when the Grizzlies are expected to be healthier.
