Greg Cote Show podcast: Meet man who invented Greg in 1972. Also: Addams Family & Munsters reboots

Florida Tennis magazine

The new episode of The Greg Cote Show podcast, out now, invites you to “Meet The Man Who Invented Greg Cote.” OK, well, Greg’s parents invented him, technically. But our special guest, Jim Martz, invented the Greg you all know -- who went on to write for the Miami Herald, be a regular on the Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz, and now appear on his own podcast.

“I doubt I would have ever enjoyed the career I have had and become a public figure anybody ever heard of if not for Jim,” says Greg.

Hear how Greg came to apply for that part-time job and why Martz hired him in the turn of fate that changed Greg’s life.

Martz worked 20-plus years as the Herald’s tennis writer, now publishes Florida Tennis magazine and also is Miami Hurricanes expert who has written a book on UM football. So we also chat with Jim about Serena Williams retiring, the Mario Cristobal era and more.

This is our 37th episode of 2022 and 128th overall and we welcome you back as always!

Also in the new episode:

Greg joins in live from Chicago, where he attended a wedding, and where he was astonished to discover you can smoke marijuana openly on the streets. (Not that Greg did. He did did not, we promise). But Greg and Chris do get into a discussion of their own past dalliances with weed. Well, Greg’s are past, at least.

The guys discuss the etiquette and competitive strategy of using a bathroom on a flight.

Greg recalls his childhood love of rival sitcoms The Addams Family and The Munsters, and how both are enjoying renewed popularity with rebranding this fall.

We discuss “Cock Commander,” the controversial new nickname being proposed for the South Carolina Gamecocks college football team.

Also: Udonis Haslem re-upping with the Miami Heat; Dad joke of the week; and whether rich celebrities like Dwyane Wade should shut up (or not) about their lavish vacation spending and yacht-y lifestyles.
