With Jordan Love currently dealing with a shoulder injury, the Green Bay Packers are bringing back a familiar face at quarterback for their second preseason game.

Moments ago, the Packers officially announced that they’ve signed quarterback Jake Dolegala. He was actually released by the team on July 27.

After being cut by the Packers earlier this year, Dolegala was claimed by the New England Patriots. That marked his second stint with the Patriots – he was on their practice squad for most of the 2020 season.

Dolegala will be listed as the fourth-string quarterback on Green Bay’s depth chart, yet he’ll most likely receive playing time this weekend against the New York Jets.

It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers is sitting out this preseason. So with Rodgers on the sidelines and Love’s status up in the air, the Packers will have to give snaps to Kurt Benkert and Jake Dolegala.

During the preseason opener, Love went 12-for-17 for 122 yards and a touchdown. Benkert, meanwhile, completed 8-of-12 passes for 88 yards and an interception.

If Dolegala plays well in the final two preseason games, he could potentially dethrone Benkert for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.

Kickoff for the Jets-Packers game is this Saturday at 4:25 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
