  • Princess Lilibet of Sussex celebrated her second birthday on June 4, and grandfather King Charles III has a special gift planned.

  • Reports indicate King Charles intends to have a "cubby house" made for the young princess at her home in Los Angeles.

  • Queen Elizabeth II had received a similar cubby house as a gift when she was six years old.

Look, we like to take shots at the newly crowned King Charles III from time to time, mostly for the alleged financial whoopsies. But credit where credit is due: Amidst all the drama between Charles and his son Prince Harry, the new King is still making sure his youngest granddaughter has a special birthday.

Princess Lilibet of Sussex, the youngest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will be turning 2 years old on Sunday, June 4. Goodto, who reported on Charles's forthcoming gift to Lilibet, notes that the young princess celebrated her first birthday in the U.K. around the time of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

But Lilibet's second birthday, perhaps due to frosty relations between her parents and paternal grandparents, will be celebrated at home in Los Angeles. Nevertheless, King Charles is making sure his gift will be one that will be "remembered forever," and one that ensures a little bit of Queen Elizabeth is carried on with her great-granddaughter.

Reportedly, King Charles "has had his aides looking at custom-made cubby house, similar to what the Queen and Princess Margaret had when they were girls."

Queen Elizabeth received a cubby house (what we in the states might call a play house) when she was six years old. Called Y Bwthyn Bach (’The Little Cottage’ in Welsh), the cottage was "a gift from the people of Wales" and stood on the grounds of the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

It has since "been passed down to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis," and while Lilibet does not reside in the U.K. to enjoy that particular ancestral cubby house, Charles is ensuring that she'll have one of her very own to enjoy.

In the wake of Charles confirming he won't strip the title from Harry, father of Lilibet, and reportedly set to "stop slamming the Royals," could this gift perhaps be a sign of relations being repaired between the once-raging factions of the Royal split?
