Grand slam, goals and 15-strikeout game headline Columbia area boys athlete of the week nominees

It's time to vote for The Daily Herald's boys athlete of the week in the Columbia area for April 15-19.

This week's candidates include:

CJ Durrough, Columbia Academy: Durrough pitched 3.1 innings last Tuesday, striking out four batters while allowing one hit and no earned runs in a win. Durrough was also 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, a stolen base and RBI last Monday.

Benton Wall, Columbia Central: Wall scored a goal and assisted two in a 3-0 win over Spring Hill. Wall also scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Spring Hill.

Lane Sharp, Columbia Central: Sharp pitched 6.2 innings, striking out 15 batters and allowing two earned runs in an 8-2 win over Shelbyville last Monday.

Saxon Roberts, Independence: Roberts was 6-for-10 on the week with a home run, a triple, four additional runs, four RBIs and three stolen bases as Independence went 3-0.

Mark Harrell, Independence: Harrell went 2-for-3 with a home run, stolen base and RBI in a 7-5 win over Franklin last Monday. Harrell was also 1-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases in a win last Thursday.

Alex Bedford, Lawrence County: Bedford was 4-for-9 on the week with a grand slam, a home run, three additional runs, five additional RBIs and a stolen base as Lawrence County went 4-1.

Andrew Kidd, Lawrence County: Kidd struck out nine batters in 4.2 innings pitched, allowing two hits and no runs in a 11-0 win over Rocket City last Friday.

Carter Daniel, Loretto: Daniel struck out 12 batters in seven innings pitched, allowing two earned runs in a 4-2 win last Monday.

Carter Edwards, Richland: Edwards was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base in a 12-1 win over Hampshire last Tuesday. Edwards also pitched four innings, striking out five while allowing just two hits and no earned runs.

Ethan Swoish, Spring Hill: Swoish was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and an additional run in a 9-7 win last Thursday. Swoish was also 2-for-4 with a run and RBI last Monday.
