Gran Turismo fans will be on the edge of their seats after the movie dropped its first tantalising teaser and revealed that the movie's full trailer will be unveiled tomorrow May 2).

Gran Turismo is the latest picture from District 9 director Neil Blomkamp. The movie is based on PlayStation's racing simulator gaming series and tells the true life story of Jann Mardenborough, who was a teenager who became so good at the video game that he eventually became a real race car driver.

Sony Pictures shared the 15-second teaser on social media, writing: "High speed brings higher stakes. #GranTurismoMovie is the exhilarating true story of Jann Mardenborough, a gamer who became a real-life racecar driver. Only in cinemas August 11. TRAILER TOMORROW."

The short but thrilling teaser shows a look at David Harbour in the long-awaited film, fresh from last year's Stranger Things.

Then, Orlando Bloom's character (Danny Moore, a motorsport marketing executive) told Archie Madekwe's Jann: "You will compete for a place in racing history."

This brief clip was intercut with flashing images of high-octane racing, giving fans a glimpse of the heart-pumping thriller the movie looks to promise.

In January, Sony released a sneak peek of the movie, which again showed flashes of race car brilliance while Bloom also spoke to audiences about what to expect from the picture.

"This movie is made for the cinema," he said. "The audience is going to feel every jolt, every thrill of this racing at 200 miles-per-hour."

In the same video, Harbour, who features as the retired racing driver who trains Jann, describes the film as a "badass, race car action that you’re gonna feel like you're in the middle of."

Gran Turismo will be released in cinemas on August 11.
