Netflix's newest three-part, true crime docuseries, Get Gotti, is getting all kind of attention for its exploration of the life of notorious New York mob boss John Gotti, who was the head of the powerful Gambino crime family in the 1980s. The series breaks down Gotti’s early life, how he rose to power in New York, and how he evaded law enforcement over the years.

In 1992, Gotti had finally been caught by law enforcement, and had been convicted of charges that included racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, murder, illegal gambling, obstruction of justice, and conspiracies to murder, bribe a detective, obstruct justice, commit loan sharking, and commit tax fraud, according to Encyclopedia.com. Gotti died of throat cancer in 2002 while serving a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole and a $250,000 fine for his crimes.

But the new series also dives into the lives of people in Gotti’s orbit, including his trusted associate Andrea Giovino. But who is Andrea Giovino and where is she now? Here’s everything to know.

Who is Andrea Giovino?

Andrea Giovino is a former associate of mob boss John Gotti. In Get Gotti, she talks about her interactions with John. “New York in the 80s was the perfect time to be a criminal,” she says in the trailer. “You can get away with everything.”

How did Andrea meet John Gotti?

As Andrea details in the docuseries, she met John at Club A, a nightclub in New York that reportedly serviced a lot of shady clientele.

She was just 21 at the time. As Andrea explains it, she and her sister were invited to hang out in the VIP section with John and his associate, Mark Reiter. He sent over a bottle of pricy Dom Perignon champagne and asked them to join the table, The Guardian reported.

What was her role in the Gambino crime ring?

The doc explains that Andrea helped attract wealthy and powerful people to the Gambino crime ring (which John was in charge of), and she knew a lot about the mob business. She also was a close confidant of John, although the two didn’t see each other in person very often.

She was romantically involved with Mark Reiter.

The night she met John Gotti, Andrea also met Mark Reiter, who was considered John’s right-hand man in the heroin business. Andrea and Mark hit it off and started dating. They even moved in together.

But when Mark was sentenced to 260 years in prison for drug trafficking two years later, she broke things off. Later, Andrea had a romantic relationship with a man named John Fogarty, who would become her husband, according to The Guardian.

What happened to Andrea?

Andrea was arrested in 1992 on charges of conspiring to distribute marijuana and cocaine in the Brooklyn and Staten Island area, The Guardian reports. Her husband, John, and brother, John Silvestri, were wanted for murder and extortion, and her arrest was a ploy to get them to confess. All charges against her were ultimately dropped.

When the FBI learned that someone was trying to kill her (thanks to a wire-tap), they tried to get Andrea to join the Witness Protection Program and move to the midwest, per The Guardian. Instead, she moved to a quiet suburb in Pennsylvania and decided to completely transform her life.
