Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington are set to reunite in upcoming gothic-horror movie The Dreadful.

Set during the War of the Roses, The Dreadful follows the story of Anne (Turner), who lives "a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society" alongside her mother-in-law Morwen (via Deadline).

However, their lives are changed when a man (Harington) from their past arrives, with his return setting off a chain of events that will ultimately change Anne's life in unexpected ways.

Natasha Kermani (Lucky, Imitation Girl) has written the film and is currently scheduled to direct, with further details about the film's cast and plot yet to be announced.

Turner and Harington are best known for their roles as Sansa Stark and Jon Snow in the HBO's hugely popular adaptation of George R. R. Martin's fantasy series. The series ran for eight seasons before coming to a divisive ending in 2019.

Since the finale, Harington has been rumoured to be reprising his role as the former King in the North for a potential spin-off series titled Snow.

However, the spin-off received a disappointing update last November, when HBO CEO and chairman Casey Bloys said none of the rumoured GoT offshoots were close "to a green light".

Outside of the world of Westeros, Harington has appeared in the MCU as Dane Whitman in Eternals alongside fellow GoT actor Richard Madden as well as starring in Apple TV+ series Extrapolations. He was most recently seen in crime thriller film Blood for Dust.

Meanwhile, Turner's recent film and TV credits have included an appearance in Netflix film Do Revenge and a leading role in Max's crime drama The Staircase.

She will next be seen in ITV's highly anticipated drama Joan, which tells the story of real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington, alongside Fear the Walking Dead star Frank Dillane.
