Gorgeous Husky Mix at Washington Animal Shelter Has Everyone Obsessed with His 'Floppy Ears'

No matter where you live, your local animal shelter has many loving dogs who are patiently waiting for their forever homes. You may be surprised at the variety of dogs in the humane society, but you're also bound to see some kinds of dogs no matter where you're located. For example, several dog breeds--like Pit Bulls, Huskies, and Shepherds--are more likely to end up in the shelter across the United States.

Thankfully, there are many animal advocates and shelter volunteers who are networking for these dogs in need. Dogs just like Samsung! This big, fluffy guy has been a part of Adams County Pet Rescue in Washington state since March 2023, when he was just a pup, and he's still in search of his forever home over a year later. He was even adopted in January, but no luck!

Now, dog rescuers @juliesaraceno2 and @does.it.dangle want to help floppy-eared Samsung call the right person. They met up for a play date on April 26 to get to know him better, and they couldn't have been happier with how it went!

OMG—those ears are priceless! The way they flop and bounce is just too cute, especially when his new friends scratch him behind the ear.  It's easy to see why so many people fall in love with him when they see him, but why hasn't this shelter dog found the right adopter yet?

Perhaps people aren't prepared for the needs of a Husky (which is fair), or they've overestimated Samsung's energy level (which is also fair). But as his animal shelter volunteer friends share, he's not all that energetic! Even though he's happy to play and is very treat-motivated, he's a lot more of a couch potato than your typical Siberian Husky. However, if you take this large dog's size into account, you may need a bigger couch!

Why Some Dogs Wait Longer

I know I'm not the only one asking myself why this good boy is still in the shelter, but the reality is that he has the odds stacked against him. Not only is he a large dog, which is harder to find a home for, but he's also a working breed dog, which is known to be energetic, independent, and even stubborn. Many adopters are not looking for or prepared for this!

Even though Samsung is only a year and a half old, his shyness can also drive away less patient adopters. But as these two rescue advocates proved, it doesn't take long to win him over! A few yummy dog treats and a couple of minutes of petting later--he'll be your BFF!
