Google services, including Gmail and YouTube, face massive outage worldwide Monday morning
Some of Google’s most popular products crashed for users worldwide Monday morning.
Google Drive, Gmail and YouTube were among the services that saw a surge of reported issues as the week began, according to DownDetector, a website tracking digital blackouts.
The company said the “authentication system outage” lasted about 45 minutes and was caused by “an internal storage quota issue.”
“All services are now restored,” a Google spokesperson said in an email. “We apologise to everyone affected, and we will conduct a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future.”
The website’s popular search tool, Google.com, was also down at some point early Monday, but the service was quickly restored.
The blackout appears to have affected millions, if not billions, of users. The platform’s G Suite — which includes its popular email, Google Docs, Hangouts and Meet — has more than 2 billion monthly active users.
The massive outage sent users into a global frenzy.
“What’s happening 2020?” Twitter user Crisbin Mathew wrote. “The day came when you can’t even @Google what happened with @Google! It’s #2020 and nothing is normal this year.”

“Shutting down all of google (on) finals week feels like the 2020 equivalent of that one kid pulling the fire alarm to get out of a final,” student activist David Hogg tweeted.
Google Calendar and Google Voice also experienced issues Monday morning.
