A new day is dawning for Goodnights as the legendary comedy club’s new permanent home has opened in Raleigh.

After months of hosting comedy-lovers in a temporary location, Goodnights will take up residency at 401 Woodburn Road in Raleigh’s Village District starting Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The original Goodnights opened in 1983 on West Morgan Street as Charlie Goodnights, serving as a stomping ground for major names in comedy like Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt, Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres.

In May 2022, Goodnights announced that the original venue would close and be demolished to make room for a mid-rise residential building. Comics like Marc Maron, Drew Carey and Oswalt mourned on Twitter after the original Goodnights location was torn down in August.

Since July, shows have been held at 511 Woodburn Road in the former K&W cafeteria in the Village District.

The new venue was once known as the Village Subway and is adjacent to the former Raleigh Underground.

There are multiple stages, a VIP section, increased seating and new audio and video equipment. One of the showrooms will be called Room 861, a reference to the Morgan Street location.

Goodnights opened with a live-recording performance from comedian Helen Widly Wednesday.

Upcoming shows feature comedians Adam Carolla, Dave Attell and Jess Hilarious. For details, go to goodnightscomedy.com.
