The Good Place star Jameela Jamil has landed her next movie role in a rom-com remake.

The actress, who played Tahani Al-Jamil in the comedy series, is set to star alongside Moonlight's Naomie Harris and The End We Start From's Joel Fry in Lola and Freddie (via Variety).

The film is billed as a British reimagining of the 2012 classic Celeste and Jesse Forever, which starred Parks and Recreation's Rashida Jones and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg as a divorcing couple who try to maintain their friendship.

Directed by Dean Craig, Lola and Freddie will similarly follow a once inseparable couple (Harris and Joel), who decide to get a divorce after growing in different directions.

Lola thrives in her career, while Freddie continues to chase his dream of becoming a screenwriter. When Freddie is then hired by a successful studio and rekindles a former relationship, Lola sees qualities in him that she previously desired in their marriage.

The official synopsis reads: "With Freddie's change in fortune, Lola starts to miss a life she thought she no longer wanted. With newly separate worlds colliding again, Lola and Freddie are forced to confront the uncomfortable truth that they might still be in love with each other. But a major development in Freddie's life means it may be too late to salvage their relationship."

The film is due to shoot on location in London, before launching at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Following the announcement, director Craig shared his excitement, saying: "I absolutely loved Celeste & Jesse Forever, so when I read Peter Howitt's script for the UK-set reimagining I was delighted to see he'd managed to retain the comedic and soulful essence of the original and at the same time create something that feels utterly new and unique, and totally English.

"Naomie and Joel are the perfect Lola and Freddie, and it's a privilege to get to work with this phenomenally talented cast, and fantastic producers. I think we have the elements in place to make a very special film."

Lola and Freddie doesn't have a release date yet. The Good Place is available to stream on Netflix.
