Good Omens is finally getting a second season and it's dropping sooner than fans may expect.

The popular fantasy comedy series, starring David Tenant and Michael Sheen in the lead roles of Crowley and Aziraphale, first hit our screens in 2019, with a second season eagerly awaited by fans.

Prime Video has since confirmed when fans can expect more from the angel and demon duo, announcing the second season will be released to the streaming platform on July 28.

A poster for the upcoming season was also posted to the Prime Video Twitter account showing the lead characters sat side by side in what appears to be Aziraphale's book shop given the sheer amount of tomes the duo are surrounded by.

Programme creator Neil Gaiman, who penned the novel the show is based on alongside Terry Pratchett, also shared the news via a fan-made parody video that he worked on with The Hillywood Show.

Gaiman hinted earlier this year that the second season wasn't too far away, tweeting that it would be out this summer and that it was "done and dusted".

Good Omens tells the story of demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale as they are forced to form an unlikely duo to prevent the upcoming Armageddon.

The official synopsis for season 2 says that it will explore: "Storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the uncanny friendship between Aziraphale, a fussy angel and rare book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley.

"Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London's Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery."

Also set to star will be Jon Hamm as Gabriel, Liz Carr as Saraqael, Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel and Shelley Conn as Beelzebub.

The second season of the show is set to be a family affair for Tennant as it sees his son Ty Tennant and father-in-law Peter Davidson join the cast. House Of The Dragon star Ty will reportedly play a character called Ennon, according to the Radio Times, while Davidson will take on the role of Alistair.

Good Omens season 2 will be released on Prime Video on July 28, and the first season is available to stream now.
