The cheapest gas in Fort Worth was down to $2.83 a gallon and in Texas it dropped to $2.50 a gallon, according to GasBuddy price reports.

Good news for motorists filling up tanks a week before Thanksgiving. Whether prices can continue to inch lower is a bit murky.

“I think it’s a good possibility prices in DFW will continue to flirt with an average between $2.80-$3.20/gal over the next six weeks or so,” according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in an email. “Barring unexpected changes to supply/demand/etc.”

Average gasoline prices in Fort Worth have fallen 13.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.04 a gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,039 stations in Fort Worth. Prices in Fort Worth are 30.1 cents a gallon lower than a month ago and stand 4.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 2.3 cents in the last week and stands at $5.34 per gallon.

“The decline has been partly driven by Great Lakes states, where prices fell by 15-25 cents per gallon due to an improvement in the refining situation, and also oil prices, which fell back under $90 per barrel last week,” De Haan said. “With oil prices remaining volatile, the outlook is murky, but I’m hopeful in the lead up to Thanksgiving we’ll see prices declining in more states, while others may not be quite as lucky. Regardless, we’ll still be seeing the most expensive Thanksgiving Day prices on record.”

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices:

Dallas — $3.05 a gallon, down 13.6 cents a gallon from last week’s $3.18.

Waco — $2.95 a gallon, down 7 cents a gallon from last week’s $3.02.

College Station — $3.04 a gallon, down 8.6 cents a gallon from last week’s $3.13.

The national average has fallen 2.6 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.76. That is down 14.3 cents a gallon from a month ago and stands 36.3 cents a gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“After rising the week prior, the national average has changed directions again, posting a modest weekly decline with prices dropping in a majority of states,” De Haan said.
