'Good Bones' Is Returning to HGTV with a Major Change

Good Bones is returning to HGTV! The mother-daughter home renovation show is coming back, but there are some big changes in store.
The story goes all the way back to 2007, when Mina Starsiak Hawk and her mom Karen E. Laine founded Two Chicks and a Hammer, a home renovation company. They began filming Good Bones in 2016, rehabbing houses and revitalizing neighborhoods in their hometown of Indianapolis.
A year ago, Mina announced the end of the long-running series, and the decision was not without some behind-the-scenes drama. She said, "Today, I filmed my last few pickups for 'Good Bones.' Not 'Good Bones' Season Eight, but for 'Good Bones. So it is officially, 'That's a wrap, folks.'... it's the end of an era."
Mina told People that she and her mother had a falling out. She said, "There were definitely some challenging [moments] because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we've been." During a demo, she explained, they got in "a knockdown drag-out [fight]."
It seems as if some of that drama is behind them, because Mina and Karen are starring on a new three-episode limited series, Good Bones: New Beginnings. But the two have left Indianapolis and gone their separate ways. Mina will be updating a lake house north of Indianapolis, while Karen renovates a bungalow in Wilmington, North Carolina.
It's unclear if the two will appear on screen together, but HGTV says that the first episode focuses on Mina's efforts, and the remaining two will feature Karen's project.
HGTV shared the news on Instagram, and fans left messages like, "I certainly hope old wounds have healed. I did love Good Bones and the entire cast" and "Ya’ll need the regular show back!! Best one on HGTV!!!"
Good Bones: New Beginnings premieres on HGTV on Wednesday, August 14 and will be available to stream on Max.
