If you've ever golfed on a course surrounded by homes, chances are you've lost a golf ball or two in someone's backyard. Barstool Sports shared a video of one golfer's attempt to get his ball back, and the way he does it is just awesome!

The video was posted on Monday, February 26th, and shows a golfer who realized his ball had landed in someone's backyard. There were two dogs in the yard, so the golfer decided to pet the Golden Retriever. He tells the dog he wants his ball, and what the dog does next is perfection.

The Golden Retriever knew exactly what the golfer wanted and brought him his golf ball! The dog was probably hoping for a quick game of fetch; I wonder if the golfer gave him any kind of treat for bringing it to him. I don't know what was funnier, the dog actually retrieving the golf ball or the golfer's reaction to him bringing it back! Barstool Sports commenters got a kick out of the video too. Hundreds of commenters were all thinking the same thing that @The Real Travis Morton said, "He BETTER bring them a treat next time he comes through."

Why Dogs Love to Fetch

I'm sure this wasn't the first time the Golden was asked to fetch a ball for a golfer. Most dogs love to fetch, but why? There are several reasons that dogs love to 'go get the ball'. Some dog breeds (like Golden Retrievers) were bred to chase and catch things before bringing them back to their owners, so it makes sense that these dogs would like to fetch.

Another reason dogs enjoy fetching is because they've got their human's undivided attention and receive praise every time that they bring the ball back. Humane Society Naples shares that it also "encourages the bond between human and dog, cementing your position as the ‘alpha’ as you command your dog to retrieve objects for you." Fetch allows them to show you how strong and fast they are, they love showing off their skills! They also get a serotonin boost doing what they enjoy, so it actually makes them feel good.

Fetch is great exercise and allows high-energy dogs to burn off some of that energy. Most dogs have a natural instinct to hunt, so chasing after and finding a ball or other toy can satisfy that urge.

Fetch can get boring for us humans, so switch it up when that happens. Most dogs also love to play frisbee, tug-of-war, and hide and seek the treat!
