Golf World Reacts To Tiger Woods Tournament News
Tiger Woods might not be competing in a professional golf tournament soon, but he can play host to one later this year.
Woods plans to host the 2021 Hero World Challenge, as he has done in the past. The tournament will take place in the Bahamas in early December.
Earlier this week, Woods announced that this year’s edition of the Hero World Challenge will feature a star-studded field. 15 of the top 20 players in the world will be on hand, including three past winners of the event and two of the four 2021 major champions.
Here’s the full list of participants, per Woods’ announcement:
Collin Morikawa (3), USA; Viktor Hovland (14), Norway; Patrick Cantlay (4), USA; Jordan Spieth (15) USA; Xander Schauffele (5), USA; Daniel Berger (16) USA; Justin Thomas (6), USA; Tyrrell Hatton (17), England; Bryson DeChambeau (7), USA; Hideki Matsuyama (18), Japan; Tony Finau (9), USA; Patrick Reed (19), USA; Brooks Koepka (10), USA; Henrik Stenson, defending champion, Sweden; Harris English (11), USA; Webb Simpson, tournament exemption, USA; Abraham Ancer (12), Mexico; Scottie Scheffler, tournament exemption, USA; Rory McIlroy (13), Northern Ireland; Justin Rose, tournament exemption, England.
“So excited to welcome these incredible players to the Hero World Challenge. With 15 of the top 20 in the field, I know it’s going to be a great week,” Woods announced on Twitter.
With the PGA Tour currently taking an offseason hiatus following the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup, the Hero World Challenge is set to fill the void in professional golf. The announcement of an impressive field of players only further sparked interest in the event this week.

World No. 1 Jon Rahm and No. 2 Dustin Johnson will be the two most notable absences from an otherwise loaded field. Of course, Woods won’t be able to play either as he continues to recover from his single-car accident earlier this year.
The 2021 Hero World Challenge will take place from Thursday, December 2 to Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Albany in The Bahamas.
