Golf World Reacts To Cameron Champ’s Win On Sunday

With many of the PGA Tour’s top golfers in Tokyo this month for the Summer Olympics, the golfing spotlight was on Cameron Champ at the 3M Open in Minnesota. And he gave the people what they wanted.

The 26-year-old Texas A&M alum claimed the third PGA Tour win of his career today, winning the 3M Open by two strokes over Louis Oosthuizen. He won it in style too.

On the par-five 18th hole of his final round, Champ was 127 feet away from the hole on his fourth shot. With plenty of poise, he wedged the shot almost perfectly, and the ball landed on the green before rolling to within three feet of the hole. After an easy putt, Champ claimed victory in Minnesota.

What was almost as amazing is that Champ was apparently battling dehydration in the waning holes of the round. Several times throughout his round he was forced to sit down due to fatigue and dizziness.

But Champ’s struggles in the 3M Open only made his triumph easier for fans to appreciate later:

Cameron Champ was nearly flawless through all 72 holes. He bogeyed just five times while recording 21 birdies.

While his final shot didn’t result in a birdie, it was arguably bigger than any birdie he sank:

2021 has been a bit of a mixed bag for Cameron Champ. In the majors he finished tied for 26th at the Masters only to be cut from the PGA Championship and U.S. Open. He did not play in The Open Championship.

But with today’s win at the 3M Open, he’s got some momentum as he heads deeper into the summer golf season.

Congrats on the big win, Champ!
