Golf betting: Bettors like Jon Rahm to continue his Memorial hot streak

Bettors are counting on Jon Rahm to be really good at the Memorial Tournament again.

Rahm enters this weekend’s PGA Tour event hosted by Jack Nicklaus as the favorite at +1000. Rahm won the 2020 tournament and was leading by six strokes in 2021 when he had to withdraw because of a positive COVID-19 test.

Rahm is getting the most bets of any golfer at BetMGM, as 8% of the wagers are on him to win the tournament. Those wagers make up just over 14% of the total handle bet on the winner of the tournament; no other golfer is getting more than 9% of the money.

Collin Morikawa is at +2200 and the clear second choice of bettors. He’s getting 6% of wagers and 8.5% of the handle. Viktor Hovland (+2500) is the third-most bet golfer to win with 4.7% of bets and Shane Lowry (+2500) is getting the third-most money at 7.5%.

Charles Schwab Challenge winner Sam Burns is not in the field this weekend and neither is Scottie Scheffler, the man he beat in a playoff for the tournament title. PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas is also off this week after he missed the cut at the Charles Schwab.

Patrick Cantlay won the Memorial after Rahm withdrew a year ago and he’s the No. 3 favorite behind Rahm and Rory McIlroy (+1100) at +1600. Xander Schauffele is the only other golfer better than +2000 at +1800 to win.

Rahm is at +220 to finish in the top five and +100 to finish in the top 10, while McIlroy is at +250 for a top five and +110 for a top-10 finish. If you want to bet Rahm to finish in the top 40, you’re going to get him at massively short -600 odds.

Cantlay is the favorite to be the top American at +800, while Schauffele is at +1000. Morikawa is at +1200 in that category alongside Jordan Spieth despite Spieth having slightly better odds to win the tournament at +2000.
