Goldendoodle Puppy's Morning Routine After Being Spayed Tugs at the Heartstrings

Bringing home a new puppy can be so much fun, but there are also some important decisions you'll have to make sooner rather than later. Some of those decisions, such as what to name your new bestie, are fun to think about, but others aren't so exciting. For example, will you have your puppy spayed or neutered?

Spaying and neutering have many benefits, including controlling the population of homeless animals on the streets and in shelters. It can have individual health benefits, too, which is why mini-Goldendoodle puppy mom Katerina chose to have Beanie spayed. It can be almost as tough for a dog's human to get through as it is for the dog themselves, but Beanie and Katerina's May 17 morning routine was comforting to them both. Take a look!

What a sweet duo! There's zero doubt about Katerina's devotion to Beanie, the mini-Goldendoodle, especially after a morning of top-notch care and cuddling. What else could a pup want in this world? Even if she's not feeling quite like herself yet, it must be so comforting to be wrapped up in a blankie in her owner's arms.

But let's be honest--this has to be just as comforting for the dedicated dog owner, too! It's so stressful seeing your pup feeling under the weather after a procedure, and other dog parents can feel Katerina's pain.

"When I got my puppy spayed," shared @a2003jc, "she had enough energy to get excited to see me but slept the rest of the first day. Glad to say recovery went well. Hope your pup feels well soon!" It can definitely take several days before a female dog is back to herself after a spay, but it can take even longer for the wound itself to heal. That's why these days of rest and comfort are oh-so-important!

Recovering from a Spay

When you bring your puppy home from the vet's office after their spay procedure, it may be loopy, confused, sleepy, or even scared. All of these reactions are normal after anesthesia, but you should let your dog's vet know if they aren't returning to normal within a day or two.

While at home, make sure your little patient stays as still and calm as possible. They will likely need to wear a cone or full-body suit like Beanie is to keep them from scratching or gnawing at their wounds, but this is only temporary. Take advantage of brain-stimulating activities like puzzle toys and frozen treats that will keep them occupied and satisfied. It may become challenging to keep a young dog calm, but an easy recovery is so worth it.

Feel better soon, Beanie!
