Goldendoodle Gets His First Pair of Rain Boots and It’s Pure Comedy

Some pet parents love to dress their pups up in clothes and shoes, but not all of their animals enjoy it as much as they do. Kevin is a Goldendoodle who lives in Melbourne, Australia. His mom recently got him his first pair of rain boots...AKA 'wellies' and I'm not so sure he's a fan!

Mom shared the video on Friday, April 12th. It's only about 10 seconds long and when it starts, Kevin is nowhere to be seen. But then he comes around the corner, and he doesn't look too happy! Turn your sound on because the music she chose to accompany the video is perfect!

Kevin knows he looks awesome in his new wellies! I was surprised by how well he walked in them...most dogs aren't sure how to do it. If nothing else, this makes me want to get our puppy some cute boots! @Stocknotsee was on point when they said, "I don’t think that Kevin likes those boots." I cracked up at @Blanche's comment, "I feel Kevin hopes it will never rain again LOL!" and Kevin's human replied, "Sadly he lives in Melbourne - all it does here is rain haha!"

Dogs and the Rain: Why Some Dogs Aren't Fans

Does your dog like to go out in the rain? Our puppy loves to and has no problem getting soaking wet or making us stand out there while she tries to play in it! Not all dogs are fans of rain, though. Dr. Mary Fuller shares that just like people, some dogs just don't like the rain, and that some dogs may have storm phobias leaving them able to sense an approaching storm (many people know that their pets know when weather is heading their way).

I guess it's not surprising that some dogs don't like the rain since so many dogs are afraid of the water. This fear usually comes along during the puppy stage if their humans don't introduce the puppy to water and/or rain. This is why early socialization is so important when your dog is a puppy.

Dr. Fuller recommends introducing your dog to the rain slowly. Start off by using an umbrella to keep them dry, and even putting them in rain gear (like Kevin's wellies and a raincoat. If they go potty, make sure to give them a treat. It's almost like you have to potty train them again in a different environment. You want them to associate the rain as a 'pawsitive' experience.

If they don't/won't go potty outside in the rain, there are a few options. Some people have covered porches where they can put a patch of grass down that mimics real grass, giving a pup a comfy place to do their business. Others have taught their pooches to use wee wee pads inside the house during inclement weather. Another option is hiring a professional dog trainer...it's an expensive approach but may be worth it to keep you sane!
