Are you going to watch Chiefs training camp? What to know before you head to St. Joseph

Are you ready for some football, Chiefs Kingdom?

The NFL season gets underway in a little over a month, and teams are gearing up for training camp.

For Chiefs fans, this will be your first look at the new offense and defense as they adjust from trading Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins and losing Tyrann Mathieu in free agency.

Training camp begins July 23, but the first practices are closed to the general public. After that, fans can travel to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph to watch the Chiefs practice until Aug. 18, five days after their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

WHEN DO THEY PRACTICE?

The Chiefs’ training camp schedule is below. After each training camp session, a different group of position players will be available for autographs.

All practices start at 9:15 a.m, except for Aug. 18, which starts at 8:15 a.m.

There is practice every day from July 27 to Aug. 18, except on July 31, Aug. 6, Aug. 10 and Aug. 12-14.

You need a ticket, but each day is free and open to anyone unless noted below:

  • July 27. Only season ticket members can attend this session. A pancake breakfast will also be available.

  • July 29 and July 30 have $5 admission fees for each day.

  • Aug. 7. It’s family fun day and there’s a $5 fee.

  • Aug. 9. This session is only available for season ticket members.

Other special events that happen on free practice days include Chiefs Alumni Day on Aug. 1 and military appreciation day on Aug. 18.

The weather and field are evaluated daily, and if the team’s practice is moved to their indoor facility because of poor weather conditions, such as a thunderstorm. the session will be closed to the public. Practice days and times are also subject to change.

The team will notify fans on their social media accounts as soon as they decide to move practice indoors, so make sure you’re following the Chiefs on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

HOW CAN I GET TICKETS?

You can go to the Chiefs’ Ticketmaster website and select what day you want to go see them practice. You’ll also need to buy a parking pass, which costs $5.

You’ll park in Lot H on MWSU’s campus.

The gates to enter the training camp session open 30 minutes before it starts and close 30 minutes after it ends. All tickets are mobile-only, and you can’t buy them in-person. That’s right, you need to get them ahead of time online.

Tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If a paid ticket day, such as Family Fun Day, is canceled or moved inside because of the weather, you won’t receive a refund. Instead, you’ll be able to use that ticket on a make-up date that the team will announce.
