It’s going to be chilly this weekend in Wichita.

Cold winds winds are forecast to sweep into the area around 8 or 9 p.m. Thursday night. That will set the stage for temperatures that are “going to be below normal for Friday and Saturday,” National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Ketchum said.

Friday will see temperatures in the lower 60s. That’s a 10-degree drop from the average temperature around this time of year.

“It’s not highly unusual, but it is going to be a lot chillier than it usually is,” Ketchum said.

Saturday morning will see an even bigger drop in temperatures that will leave Wichita with a “really chilling morning,” Ketchum said.

Wichita will see temperatures in the 40s, gradually rising into the 60s as Saturday. Normal temperatures around this time of year are a high in the 70s and low in the 50s, according to Ketchum.

Some areas in central Kansas could dip into the 30s. Areas along I-70 near Ellsworth, Russell and Salina could see some patchy frost. Wichita is unlikely to encounter any frost.

“It won’t be widespread frost, but there might be some patchy frost in some lower areas that get a little colder... It won’t be anything spectacular,” Ketchum said.

Rain is unlikely but still in the forecast with a 20 percent chance on Saturday in Wichita and a 30 percent in central Kansas, a detailed forecast shows.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, temperatures will go back to average with temperatures in the upper 70s both days.

“We’re going to climb back to near seasonal temperatures for those days with highs in the middle 70s and lows in the 50s,” Ketchum said. “That’s very typical for this time of year.”

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will see temps between the 70s and 80s, a detailed forecast shows.
