Globe Life Field, Texas Rangers to host Major League All-Star Game in 2024

Major League Baseball announced on Thursday that the Texas Rangers will host the 2024 All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.

“Major League Baseball is pleased to award the 2024 All-Star Game to the Rangers and the Cities of Arlington and Fort Worth, which presented a robust bid for All-Star Week,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “The Rangers stepped up under difficult circumstances and Globe Life Field served as terrific host for the 2020 Postseason, including the World Series. We are excited to once again feature Baseball’s newest ballpark on a global stage next summer.”

Seattle is scheduled to host the game in 2023; Philadelphia is scheduled to host the game in 2026. The 2024 and 2025 dates were open. This leaves 2025 as open.

“The Texas Rangers are honored to be awarded the 2024 All-Star Game,” Rangers majority owner and managing partner Ray Davis said. “With the opening of Globe Life Field in 2020 and the incredible development that continues to take place around the park, Arlington is an ideal location to host Major League Baseball and the Midsummer Classic.

“We want to thank Commissioner Rob Manfred, the State of Texas and the Governor’s Office, the Cities of Arlington and Fort Worth, and all of the dedicated officials from the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau and Visit Fort Worth for their efforts in bringing this showcase event to the area.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated Thursday’s announcement writing in a press release the game would be a boon to the state’s economy.

The Rangers last hosted the All-Star Game in 1995 at The Ballpark in Arlington. The National League beat the American League 3-2, and the Miami Marlin’s Jeff Conine was the Most Valuabe Player of the game.

In the 18-years since, the Arlington has built up an entertainment and tourism district around The Ballpark with the city expected to have more than 7,100 hotel rooms available, including an 888-room hotel mere steps from Globe Life Field.

Rangers vice president of business operations Rob Matwick also noted the All-Star game itself has changed from a single day affair to a week-long event.

Texas Live, and the facilities surrounding Globe Life Field make this the perfect location to host the All-Star game, he said.

It’s not clear what, if any, events Fort Worth will host as part of the festivities, but Arlington Mayor Jim Ross credited a partnership between the two cities for bringing the game to Tarrant County.

Fort Worth offers a true Texas experience, and Major League Baseball is excited by the opportunity to offer that to its fans, said Jason Sands, head of the Fort Worth Sports Commission.

Representatives of Major League Baseball were given a tour of both Arlington and Fort Worth, and they were particularly interested in the Stockyards, said Visit Fort Worth CEO Bob Jameson.

He also pointed to the build up of hotel capacity in both Fort Worth and Arlington, which he said offers both more opportunities to host high profile events like the All-Star game.

“Dallas is no longer the default option,” Jameson said.
