Glen Powell has landed his next lead movie role in thriller Huntington.

The Top Gun: Maverick star has most recently appeared in the romantic comedy Anyone But You opposite Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney, but in his next role, he's swapping steamy shower sex scenes for something a bit more stressful.

According to Deadline, Powell's next role is the lead in Huntington – a thriller inspired by the 1949 classic black comedy, Kind Hearts and Coronets.

The film, which is described by Deadline as a “raucous revenge thriller”, follows Powell as Becket Redfellow, the heir to a multi-million dollar fortune who decides to speed up the inheritance process by bumping off the family members in between him and the cash.

Huntington will be directed by John Patton Ford, who also helmed Aubrey Plaza's Emily the Criminal.

“I feel tremendously privileged to make this film with Studiocanal, Blueprint Pictures and Participant," he said in a statement.

"It speaks volumes about these companies that they have chosen to make an original and progressive movie such as this. And Glen Powell is the icing on the cake.”

Studiocanal CEOs Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin added that they were, "so excited to now have cast the extraordinary Glen Powell in the role of Becket."

"I don't know when I'll be going back… I'm sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future," he told Variety following the confirmation of the trilogy.

Powell's rom-com Anyone But You also landed a certified 'fresh' rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and recently crossed $100M at the global box office.

Anyone But You is in cinemas now.
