Glass Slipper Project set to go this weekend

United Way of the Southern Alleghenies has, for the second year, teamed up with Reliance Bank to implement The Glass Slipper Project – and there are still shopping days remaining for teens to utilize this opportunity.

The project provides prom/spring formal event gowns, shoes, and other accessories to area teens in Blair, Cambria, and Somerset counties, at no cost. This saves families hundreds of dollars each year in prom attire. Logan Valley Mall donates the former Ooh La La boutique space to the United Way each year as a place for participants to browse the gowns.

The remaining "shop" days are 3 to 7 p.m. Friday; noon to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13.

The Glass Slipper Project accepts donations of dresses, shoes, and jewelry for attendees to piece together. It is asked for all donations to be clean, and new or gently worn. Dresses in sizes 0 to 30 are welcome, however, more plus-size gowns are needed to continue promoting size inclusivity. Donations can be dropped off at the United Way Office, 208 Hollidaysburg Plaza, Duncansville, or on a “shop” day at the mall. Dresses are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at no cost.
