This glamorous Italian restaurant draws the trendy in Toronto. Now it’s open in Miami

In its native Toronto, the upscale restaurant Sofia is nestled amid boutiques, galleries and design studios in the Canadian city’s fashionable Yorkville neighborhood.

Small wonder, then, that when the new location of Sofia arrived in Miami, the restaurant opened in the luxurious Design District.

From INK Entertainment hospitality group, responsible for the Mediterranean restaurant Byblos on Miami Beach and Lebanese spot Amal in Coconut Grove and its rooftop bar Level 6, Sofia aims to blend European glamour and style with modern Italian cuisine.

Founder and CEO of INK Entertainment Charles Khabouth said that the fashionable Design District is the perfect home for Sofia.

“We couldn’t be more excited to expand our footprint in South Florida, bringing Sofia to what we feel is one of the most significant areas and desirable culinary destinations in Miami,” he said in a statement.

Designed by Studio Munge, the restaurant’s outdoor terrace is situated next to Buckminster Fuller’s iconic Fly’s Eye View sculpture and decorated with frilly pink umbrellas and white peacock chairs with an Art Deco flair.

The pink accents continue inside, where you’ll also find handblown glass chandeliers and artworks by Marco Grassi and Mr. Brainwash as part of a rotating art collection. Guests will even have the opportunity to buy the art, so save your pennies. Portraits of Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn by Russell Young adorn the walls. There’s also a semi-private dining room for special events.

The menu, curated by executive chef Daniel Roy, begins with such antipasti as carpaccio, grilled octopus, crudo and ricotta-stuffed zucchini and continues with pasta courses like cacio e pepe with truffles and rigatoni alla vodka.

You’ll also find seafood dishes involving branzino, sea bream and shrimp as well as meat dishes like Tomahawk steak, ribeye and breaded veal.

The cocktails pay homage to Italy as well, and the wine list focuses on Italian wines, some of them rare to South Florida, the hospitality group says.

For now, Sofia is open for dinner only. But the restaurant will feature live entertainment and music throughout the week and plans to launch lunch and brunch in the near future.

Even the cocktails — like the Apassionata — are glamorous at Sofia.
