Girls on the Run invites public to join 5K's and culmination of after-school program

The nonprofit Girls on the Run culminates its after-school program for the season with a 5K run on May 11 in Elkhart and May 18 in South Bend in 2024.

A 5K run on May 11 in Elkhart and May 18 in South Bend will support the nonprofit after-school program Girls on the Run Michiana. The third- through eighth-grade girls in the program, coming from 58 schools and community centers, will also culminate their season as they partake in the run.

Through coaching, the program fosters confidence, builds peer connections, promotes critical thinking and encourages community service in the girls.

Each run will follow scenic, tree-shaded residential streets and will finish up with food, music and celebrations.

The first 5K run will begin at 9:30 a.m. May 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2715 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. After that, the next will be at 9:30 a.m. May 18 at Potawatomi Park, 2105 E. Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Cost for online registration is $30 for ages 13 and older, $20 for those who are younger. Cost is $5 more for on-site registration.
